Tennessee (1-0) tipped off its 2026-27 basketball season Monday. The Lady Vols defeated Duquesne (0-1), 109-62, at Food City Center.
Monday marked the first game for Tennessee in Kim Caldwell's third season as head coach. She discussed the season-opening win.
"We appreciate Duquesne coming and playing," Caldwell said. "Coach (Dan) Burt has been a a family friend of ours for a really long time and helped me a lot in my career and I appreciate them coming.
"They gave us a really, really good punch there in the first quarter and I was proud of how our team responded. We needed that. We needed to see, I needed to see, how our team would react and respond when hit with a little bit of adversity, and the other team went on a run, and we wish them the best
of luck, and I think they're going to do very well in the A-10."
Tennessee will next play on Thursday versus Coppin State. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST at Physical Education Complex Arena in Baltimore, Maryland (MEAC Network).
