The Cowboys announced quarterback Joe Milton III was waived on Monday following the NFL preseason. Dallas waived the former Vol after claiming Kansas City running back Emari Demercado off waivers.
If Milton III clears waivers, he could return to Dallas' practice squad.
He played at Tennessee from 2021-23 and appeared in 29 games.
Milton III completed 314-of-498 passing attempts for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and five interceptions, while rushing for 505 yards and nine touchdowns with the Vols.
He completed 229-of-354 passing attempts for 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2023 regular season. The former Vol rushed for 299 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 attempts.
Milton III was selected by New England in the sixth round
of the NFL draft in 2024 (No. 193 overall). He was traded from the Patriots to Dallas in April 2025.
The Cowboys will kick off their NFL regular season at the Giants on Sept. 13. Kickoff is slated for 8:20 p.m. EDT at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (NBC).
