Carolina defeated Arizona, 33-30, on Thursday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game kicked off the NFL's preseason.
Former Tennessee senior offensive analyst Matt Merritt made his debut with the Cardinals. He was hired at Arizona on Feb. 20.
Merritt was a senior offensive analyst at Tennessee in 2021 during Josh Heupel's first season as head coach. He was hired as Georgia Southern’s running backs coach in 2022.
Alex Golesh hired Merritt as USF's associate head coach, running backs coach and running game coordinator in 2023.
The former Tennessee analyst coached at Miami the last two seasons. He served as the Hurricanes' running backs coach from 2024-25 before being hired in the NFL.
Merritt was a two-time
participant of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with Cincinnati (2016) and San Francisco (2019), assisting with running backs and quarterbacks.
