ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Though the stats haven't necessarily borne out his talent, it's evident watching freshman running back Savion Hiter that he's an eventual superstar. The former five-star has elicited a lot of praise, though his stat line is relatively meager through two games.
Hiter has just 13 carries for 21 yards thus far, though he also has four catches for 40 yards in the pass game. There's still a lot for him to work on to reach his potential, he says, noting that he's still working on the kinks of elevating to the college game, which also requires understanding that timing is a big component he's not particularly used to.
"Really getting timing down with my linemen," Hiter said. "I mean everybody's the same level as you, so you gotta
you gotta compete. I mean at the end of the day, football is football. So you gotta run through somebody's face. You gotta run through somebody's face."
There have been a few other hiccups for Hiter through two games. In the read-option game, it appears at times like he and quarterback Bryce Underwood haven't been on the same page, which has caused some plays to not go as expected.
Hiter says he is learning to be more patient and that once he figures out the timing so much more, now that he's continuing to get used to the college game, he'll have a lot more success.
"I mean, working through practice and doing all that so we can get the correct reads and stuff like that," Hiter said. "Really just patience from me as a whole. I do got to work on my patience a little bit to get behind the blockers, and so I can score touchdowns.
Fans will get another chance to see Hiter in action on Saturday, when Michigan football hosts UTEP for a 3:30 p.m. EDT kickoff at The Big House. The game will be nationally televised on BTN.
