Michigan football entered Week 1 relatively healthy and exited it at pretty much the same level. There was little in the way of player injuries in the first game of the season; thus, Week 2 is more about potentially getting some players back.
The Wolverines were without three playmakers on Saturday, with all in street clothes. Tight end Hogan Hansen, offensive lineman Andrew Babalola, and edge rusher Carter Meadows were unable to go against the Broncos, but head coach Kyle Whittingham is hoping that all three will, at the very least, be able to get back to practice this week in anticipation of Oklahoma.
"Hogan, this week we're gonna try to get him integrated back into practice, as well as Carter -- those two guys," Whittingham said. "As well as Andrew
Babalola, who should hopefully be out here in practice tomorrow. We'll see."
While the Wolverines were without those players, Michigan had gotten back one player who had spent a lot of time off the field, while another anticipated player returned from a catastrophic injury.
Saturday saw the return of safety Rod Moore after he missed the bulk of the past two years after tearing his ACL in spring ball of 2024. Likewise, Utah transfer edge rusher John Henry Daley made his Michigan debut after having closed out his Utes career with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Whittingham shared what he saw from both of them, noting that he liked what they did, but neither was back into full form.
"I thought John Henry played well," Whittingham said. "He's not at the peak of his game yet. He's still ramping up, but he played 51 snaps, I think, which is a pretty heavy load for coming off the injury that he did. But he was effective. Rod was effective; probably played Rod maybe a few more snaps than he should have, maybe a little less of a workload. But both of them contributed, and both of them did a nice job."
