The 2026 college football season is fast approaching, and Michigan football is far enough along in fall camp that the team has elected captains for the year.
New head coach Kyle Whittingham had established spring captains -- quarterback Bryce Underwood and running back Jordan Marshall on offense, along with safety Rod Moore and defensive tackle Trey Pierce on defense. He had also established a leadership council, which featured:
- Nico Andrighetto, Fifth-Year Senior Safety
- Zeke Berry, Fifth-Year Senior Cornerback
- Cameron Brandt, Senior Defensive End
- Mason Curtis, Junior Safety
- Enow Etta, Junior Defensive Tackle
- Blake Frazier, Junior Offensive Line
- Jake Guarnera, Junior Offensive Line
- Jyaire Hill, Senior Cornerback
- Andrew Marsh, Sophomore Wide Receiver
- Zack Marshall, Senior Tight End
- Andrew Sprague, Junior Offensive Line
Now, after 10 fall camp practices, the team has voted, and the aforementioned four players have been named team captains in earnest.

For Marshall, Underwood, and Pierce, this is a first-time honor, if you don't
count their inclusion in the spring. But for Moore, this is the third time he's been voted as a team captain -- and he's the first in program history to have that distinction.
One difference is that the players who were selected to the leadership council this fall are a little different:

Andrighetto, Berry, Brandt, Etta, Frazier, Guarnera, Hill, Marsh, and Sprague were on the council this spring. New additions include Bowles, Buchanan, and Daley. Mason Curtis and Zack Marshall were included in spring ball but are not on the fall leadership council roster.

The University of Michigan football program announced Monday night (Aug. 17) the selection of four captains to lead Team 147 during the 2026 season. Running back Jordan Marshall and quarterback Bryce Underwood were selected to represent the offense and safety Rod Moore and defensive tackle Trey Pierce were voted as the defensive leaders.
An endowment was established in 2020 for the players who are named captains of the football team by the Robert Brown family in conjunction with the Monroe-Brown Foundation.
Being elected captain is annually regarded as the greatest honor that a football player can receive at Michigan, mainly because it is an honor bestowed to a player by his teammates. Captaincy obtained by player vote is a distinct recognition.
Moore becomes the first player in school history to be voted a three-time captain. The other three players were voted captain for the first time.
Coach Kyle Whittingham also announced the selection of the program’s Leadership Council for the 2026 season. The team captains and the following 12 players are the representatives on the leadership council: S Nico Andrighetto, CB Zeke Berry, LB Troy Bowles, DE Cam Brandt, WR JJ Buchanan, DE John Henry Daley, DT Enow Etta, OL Blake Frazier, OL Jake Guarnera, CB Jyaire Hill, WR Andrew Marsh and OL Andrew Sprague.
