Now it's not about where Michigan football is ranked. At 3-2 on the 2026 season, the Wolverines aren't anywhere close to sniffing the rankings any longer. Now it's about the teams that are left on the schedule.
The maize and blue have lost two straight -- a one-point loss to Iowa in Week 4, and a six-point road loss at Minnesota in Week 5. The Hawkeyes were already ranked, but also lost this week to Ohio State -- their first loss of the season. Minnesota, however, wasn't sniffing the rankings.
The schedule is not going to be any easier for the now unranked Wolverines. In the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Michigan obviously fell out of the rankings, as did the next opponent -- fellow two-loss Penn State. But Indiana is ranked No. 5, Oregon is No. 13,
UCLA is now ranked at No. 22, and Ohio State is No. 6. Michigan has faced only one ranked team thus far, with Iowa coming in at No. 18 after losing to the Buckeyes. Minnesota is now receiving votes.
