ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- It was crunch time. Michigan had stormed back against Penn State, having been down 3-0 at halftime before jumping out to a 14-3 lead against the Nittany Lions. But PSU had pulled within a field goal, scoring a touchdown of its own and a subsequent two-point conversion to make it 14-11.
After each team punted, the Wolverines had done so twice, giving Penn State the ball again with a chance to tie or take the lead with just over five minutes left.
But then, the maize and blue defense made a huge play, forcing a Rocco Becht fumble and setting Michigan football up in the red zone. The ensuing touchdown put the game out of reach for the Wolverines.

The play started with safety Chris Bracy bringing added pressure off the edge. Defensive coordinator Jay Hill called a safety blitz, and the Nittany Lion offensive line had no answers for it. He came through unabated and chased down Becht, getting not only to the quarterback, but forcing the ball out in the process. After the game, he shared what happened on his end on the play.
"Just coach trusting us, calling the blitz, making a play honestly," Bracy said. "Trusting me, trusting our defense, just coming in and making a play honestly."
That was part one. But the second part required Enow Etta to find and come up with the football. And in some ways, he was as surprised as anyone to find it there waiting for him.
As the ball popped out, Etta was in prime position to recover it. He did, and saw open green ahead of him. He didn't see the offensive tackle who got him down, but it was still the play the Wolverines needed to ensure it would walk away with a desperately needed win on Saturday.
"I looped around. I seen Bracy running after him," Etta said. "So I'm like, OK, Bracy got him, I'm good. The ball come out. I'm like, 'Oh my goodness!" Like, eyes wide open. Try to grab it. When I try to grab it, I see him in my peripheral someone charging at me. I'm like, 'Oh my goodness.' I grabbed it, get smacked. I thought I had the touchdown, but either way we put the offense in a good position. So that's what it's all about."
The forced fumble and subsequent recovery ensured that Michigan would win the turnover battle after having coughed up the ball twice in the first half. It was only the second time all year that the Wolverines were able to do so, with the other being in Week 2 against Oklahoma. It was the second fumble recovery of the season, with the other also coming against the Sooners.
