The Michigan football has been floundering in 2026, despite all of the talent offensive coordinator Jason Beck has at his disposal. The Wolverines are worse in nearly every metric compared to 2025, even though much of the talent returned, and Beck had a track record of turning two offenses around.
Despite a quarterback change at halftime against Penn State, the issues persisted against Indiana. And head coach Kyle Whittingham was mum on Monday about who would start at Rutgers. But according to On3’s Pete Nakos, the maize and blue are set to start Tommy Carr over Bryce Underwood for the second straight game.

Carr struggled against the Hoosiers, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns, but did complete 63% of his passes. It’s thought that he fits Beck’s scheme more than Underwood, as it is a quarterback-centric scheme that requires more live reads rather than unbridled athleticism.
Michigan will face the Scarlet Knights at 12:30 p.m. EDT at SHI Stadium, and the game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
