After the NCAA enacted five-for-five, thus eliminating redshirts, several otherwise outgoing players who had played for four seasons in four years have been looking to get back into the game. And such is the case for a former University of Miami tight end -- but he isn't looking to play again for the Hurricanes.
According to MLive's Aaron McMann, former Tulane and Miami tight end Alex Bauman, who has played in 55 games with 81 catches for 766 yards and 14 touchdowns, is currently enrolled at the University of Michigan. And he got a temporary restraining order against the NCAA in Washtenaw County, which would allow him to be added to the team and play immediately.

in 2026 was granted a fifth season of eligibility by a local judge.
Alex Bauman, a tight end with previous stops at the University of Miami and Tulane University, was granted a motion for a temporary restraining order against the NCAA in Washtenaw County Circuit Court on Tuesday, The Ann Arbor News/MLive has learned. (. . .)
Bauman could not be reached for comment, but in his court filing says he’s already been admitted to Michigan and is enrolled in classes in the school’s School of Social Work. The Red Bank, N.J., native filed a similar motion in Florida in September, seeking a fifth season of eligibility at Miami, before voluntarily rescinding it on Sept. 29 “to account for the recent admission and enrollment at the University of Michigan and opportunity to participate on the football team,” according to the filing.
While he may have the ability to join the team immediately, there's no indication that the Wolverines are looking to add him to the program.
As of now, the maize and blue are not heavily utilizing the tight end position, but perhaps if Bauman were to join, it could be a different story, as he would be the most experienced player in the room. Bauman didn't pursue the course of the NFL draft and thus wouldn't run afoul of the Big Ten's rule against those who had previously gone to the pros in some capacity. Bauman was never added as an undrafted free agent anywhere and thus is fully eligible.
