Carson Kvapil enters Las Vegas third in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase after watching a potential points-gaining night at Bristol disappear because of mechanical trouble. Kvapil has 2,198 points and trails Sheldon Creed by 37 points with six races remaining.
Kvapil had one of the strongest cars at Bristol, winning Stage 2 and leading a race-high 156 laps. Smoke began trailing from the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet with 44 laps remaining, however, and Kvapil was forced to pit. He eventually finished 24th, four laps down, turning a potential championship-building race into a significant points loss.
Las Vegas provides an immediate recovery opportunity. Kvapil finished 11th at the track in March, earning 27 points. He remains 26 points behind
second-place Justin Allgaier but holds a four-point advantage over Jesse Love for third. A clean Vegas weekend would help stabilize his championship bid following Bristol.
