Dean Thompson produced an impressive performance in Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing eighth after starting 27th. The Sam Hunt Racing driver gained 19 positions during the afternoon and secured an important top-10 result.
Thompson initially faced the challenge of advancing through a competitive field as JR Motorsports established control of the leading drafting lanes. However, his No. 26 Toyota remained competitive throughout the opening stages, allowing him to gain positions while several drivers struggled to maintain momentum.
Thompson also worked alongside Carson Kvapil and Sammy Smith during portions of the race, helping the leaders maintain their momentum in the outside lane. The race's first major incident
occurred on Lap 57 when contact involving Harrison Burton and Taylor Gray triggered a multicar accident. Thompson avoided being collected and remained in competition as the field worked through the final stage.
He ultimately finished eighth, completing all 94 laps and earning 29 points. The result helped Thompson maintain 17th in the overall NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series standings with 611 points. Although he did not qualify for the championship Chase, Thompson will attempt to secure additional strong finishes during the final two events at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
