Hendrick Motorsports has found a new driver for the 2028 NASCAR Cup Series season. Earlier in the week, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Connor Zilisch will replace Alex Bowman in the No. 48 car starting in 2028. Zilisch, who currently drives for Trackhouse Racing, will stay in the No. 88 car for the 2027 campaign.
Bowman revealed he would retire from full-time NASCAR racing after the 2027 season, leaving an opening for one of the sport's powerhouse organizations. Zilisch was immediately linked to Hendrick Motorsports as the heavy favorite, while Corey Day was in the conversation due to his NASCAR O'Reilly Series ride.
It has been a rough season for Zilisch, who sits 34th in the standings ahead of Cody Ware. The Trackhouse Racing driver has improved
over the last month, and the struggles didn't deter Hendrick Motorsports. Now, Zilisch will be the new driver of the No. 48 car in 2028.
