Shane van Gisbergen finished 24th Sunday at Kansas Speedway after starting 17th. The Trackhouse Racing driver spent another afternoon gaining experience on a traditional 1.5-mile NASCAR oval.
Van Gisbergen avoided the major accidents but gradually lost track position as the race progressed. The No. 97 Chevrolet ultimately fell one lap behind winner Kyle Larson and completed 266 of 267 circuits, losing seven positions from where it started.
The finish earned van Gisbergen 13 points. He did not qualify for the Chase and therefore is not part of the current championship battle. Kansas instead represented another full-distance intermediate-track race for the former Supercars champion, giving him additional oval experience even though the final result
fell outside the top 20.
