RFK Racing has provided a significant update on Ryan Preece's status for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season. Team president Chip Bowers confirmed that Preece will compete in a chartered entry next year, resolving concerns surrounding the organization's ongoing charter situation.
Preece currently drives the No. 60 Ford, which operates using a charter leased from Rick Ware Racing. However, that charter will move to Legacy Motor Club in 2027, leaving RFK Racing with only two guaranteed starting positions. The organization had previously expected Preece to compete as an open entry next season.
Those plans have changed following the announcement that Brad Keselowski will depart RFK Racing after the 2026 season. With Keselowski vacating the No. 6 Ford,
Preece is expected to receive one of the organization's two existing charters. It remains unclear whether Preece will continue driving the No. 60 or move to another entry.
Preece's return was already confirmed in July when Keselowski revealed that RFK Racing had exercised the driver's contract option for 2027. The 35-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough 2026 campaign, winning the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium before securing his first points-paying Cup Series victory at Daytona International Speedway in August. That victory also earned him his first career championship Chase appearance.
RFK Racing remains committed to fielding three full-time entries in 2027 despite Keselowski's departure. Chris Buescher will return to the No. 17 Ford, while the organization continues searching for another driver and a third charter. Preece's confirmed chartered status provides stability as the team prepares for significant changes next season.
