Bubba Wallace recovered from involvement in the race’s largest accident to finish ninth Sunday at Kansas Speedway. Wallace started seventh but missed the Stage 1 points after slipping outside the top 10 during the opening 80 laps.
His afternoon became more difficult on the Lap 121 restart when contact involving Carson Hocevar and Ty Gibbs sent Gibbs into Wallace and triggered a multicar incident. The No. 23 Toyota came to pit road for repairs but remained on the lead lap, allowing Wallace to fight his way back toward the front.
Wallace ultimately earned 28 points with his ninth-place finish. He sits 10th in the Chase standings with 2,142 points, tied with Austin Cindric and 140 behind Kyle Larson. Considering the damage sustained midway through
the race, Kansas became an important salvage effort that prevented an even larger championship loss.
