Layne Riggs saw a potential runner-up finish collapse into 19th place during the final two laps at Kansas Speedway. Riggs started 22nd but had one of the fastest trucks in the field despite repeated setbacks.
A poor pit stop dropped Riggs deep in traffic before the rain delay, but he charged from 16th to second shortly after racing resumed. Front Row Motorsports later used two tires to move him ahead of Kaden Honeycutt, although Honeycutt reclaimed the lead. While trying to close back in with two laps remaining, Riggs hit the outside wall, cut a tire and lost 17 positions.
Riggs scored 35 points thanks largely to finishing third and second in the stages, but lost the championship lead. He leaves Kansas second with 2,160 points, 37 behind Honeycutt.
Riggs entered the Chase 25 points ahead of Honeycutt, creating a 62-point swing through the opening two postseason races.
