Rajah Caruth experienced a disappointing afternoon in Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 17th after showing impressive speed during the opening stage. The JR Motorsports driver qualified sixth and entered the event hoping to make significant progress in the championship Chase.
Caruth immediately moved toward the front, working alongside teammate Carson Kvapil during the opening laps. His No. 88 Chevrolet remained among the leaders throughout Stage 1, eventually finishing second behind Kvapil and earning nine valuable points. Caruth continued competing near the front during the second stage, but the changing drafting lanes prevented him from maintaining a leading position.
His afternoon became more challenging
during the final stage as JR Motorsports teammates Kvapil, Sammy Smith and Justin Allgaier established control of the dominant outside lane. Caruth was unable to regain the lost positions and ultimately finished 17th, completing all 94 laps. The performance earned him 29 points but was insufficient to preserve his championship hopes.
Caruth remains 12th in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase standings with 2,183 points. He now trails championship leader Jesse Love by 218 markers, mathematically eliminating him from title contention. Caruth will attempt to finish the season strongly at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
