Erik Jones rallied from a 30th-place starting position and involvement in a multicar accident to finish 16th Sunday at Kansas Speedway. The Legacy Motor Club driver had significant ground to make up before the race even started.
Jones was caught in the Lap 121 incident involving Carson Hocevar, Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace and Josh Berry. The No. 43 Toyota required repairs, but Jones remained on the lead lap and continued moving through the field during the second half of the race.
The comeback produced 21 points and a 14-position improvement from the start. Jones is not competing in the Chase, so those points will not influence the Cup Series championship battle, but they add to his season total. Considering the poor starting position and crash involvement,
16th represented a strong recovery and helped Legacy Motor Club place both of its cars inside the top 16.
