John Hunter Nemechek made substantial progress from the rear half of the field Sunday at Kansas Speedway. The Legacy Motor Club driver started 26th after the field was set by NASCAR’s qualifying metric.
Nemechek avoided the race’s major incidents and steadily moved forward over the 267-lap event. By the checkered flag, the No. 42 Toyota had climbed to 13th, a gain of 13 positions from the start and Legacy Motor Club’s best result of the afternoon.
Nemechek earned 24 Cup Series points at Kansas. He is not one of the 16 drivers competing in the Chase, meaning the result does not affect the championship battle, but the points still count toward his overall season total. For a team that began deep in the field, a lead-lap 13th-place finish represented
a productive afternoon and a significant improvement from its starting position.
