Ty Dillon produced a solid recovery during Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 15th after starting 30th. The Kaulig Racing driver advanced through the field during an event that featured extensive fuel conservation, aggressive drafting and two major multicar accidents.
Dillon initially faced the challenge of working forward from the lower portion of the starting lineup. However, the constantly changing drafting lanes provided opportunities for the No. 10 Chevrolet to gain positions as the afternoon progressed.
Dillon remained in competition while several drivers experienced significant problems. The 12-car crash on Lap 132 eliminated multiple contenders, and another accident on Lap 183 dramatically altered the finishing
order. Dillon avoided the most serious trouble and maintained enough pace to finish 15th.
He completed 188 of the scheduled 189 laps, finishing one circuit behind the leaders. Although he could not remain on the lead lap, the result represented a gain of 15 positions from his original starting spot.
Dillon earned 22 points and climbed one position in the overall NASCAR Cup Series standings. He now ranks 33rd with 374 points, holding a two-point advantage over rookie Connor Zilisch. Dillon will attempt to maintain that position and continue improving his results during the final two races at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
