Zane Smith recovered from an early tire problem to finish 19th in Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. The Front Row Motorsports driver qualified 31st and faced an uphill battle while navigating the unpredictable drafting conditions.
Smith's afternoon became more difficult on Lap 72 when the No. 38 Ford suffered a flat right-rear tire. Fortunately, he was able to return to pit road without triggering a major accident involving the surrounding competitors.
The unscheduled stop cost Smith valuable time and track position, forcing him to spend the remainder of the event attempting to recover. Although the race featured multiple opportunities to gain positions through strategy and accidents, Smith was unable to return to the lead lap.
He ultimately completed 187 laps, finishing 19th and two laps behind winner Kyle Larson. The result earned Smith 18 points and allowed him to maintain his position in the overall NASCAR Cup Series standings.
Smith remains 26th with 541 points, holding a narrow one-point advantage over Alex Bowman. Having missed the championship Chase, Smith will attempt to secure additional points during the final two events. He will look for a cleaner afternoon at Martinsville Speedway before concluding his 2026 campaign at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
