Chase Elliott recovered from an 18th-place starting position to record an eighth-place finish Sunday at Kansas Speedway. The defending winner of the fall Kansas race gradually moved forward after weather canceled qualifying and left him buried in the middle of the field.
Elliott reached eighth by the end of Stage 1, collecting three stage points. The No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet remained around the top 10 for the remainder of the afternoon and finished eighth, gaining 10 positions while completing all 267 laps.
Elliott scored 32 points but continues to face a steep championship deficit. He sits 13th in the Chase standings with 2,121 points, 161 behind teammate Kyle Larson. A top-10 finish normally represents a positive afternoon, but Elliott now
needs much larger point gains with only six races remaining and Larson continuing to maximize his opportunities.
