Alex Bowman will have to drive a different car number in the 2027 Daytona 500. On Sunday afternoon, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick announced that Jimmie Johnson has been granted permission to drive the No. 48 car for Legacy Motor Club in his final NASCAR Cup Series start in the Daytona 500.
However, which number will Bowman run at the Great American Race in his farewell season? According to Hendrick on the TNT pre-race show, Bowman's car number for the 2027 Daytona 500 will be announced "soon." The pre-race panel threw around the idea of bringing back the No. 25 car, but Hendrick would not confirm the number.
The No. 25 would be the best choice, as it was one of Hendrick Motorsports' first numbers. Bowman and Ally Financial understand
the significance of Johnson's last Cup Series race, so they were more than happy to help make it a reality. Now, Bowman has to find a new car number for Daytona, and it could be the No. 25.
