Austin Green delivered an outstanding performance in his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut Friday, finishing third in the Love's RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway. The Spire Motorsports driver qualified sixth, led 14 laps and nearly captured the victory during an intense overtime finish.
Green immediately demonstrated speed in his No. 77 Chevrolet, advancing to the front during the opening stage. He finished third in Stage 1 and eighth in Stage 2, remaining among the strongest competitors throughout much of the afternoon.
However, his race became more challenging during the final stage as several cautions reshuffled the field. Green fell as low as 17th before recovering valuable track position heading into overtime. He restarted fifth and
quickly worked alongside teammate Sammy Smith, helping the No. 7 Chevrolet gain momentum during the decisive final laps.
Green then attempted to capitalize on the opportunity for himself, making a three-wide move approaching the checkered flag. He ultimately finished third, just 0.093 seconds behind Smith and 0.002 seconds behind Tyler Ankrum.
The result gave Spire Motorsports two trucks among the top three finishers and marked an impressive debut for Green. Although he fell narrowly short of winning, Green established himself as a competitive superspeedway racer in his first Truck Series appearance.
