Parker Retzlaff experienced a disastrous afternoon in Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 31st after an early incident significantly damaged his championship hopes. The Viking Motorsports driver started 26th and initially demonstrated competitive speed during the opening stage.
Retzlaff worked his way inside the top 10 as the field battled through multiple drafting lanes. However, his afternoon changed dramatically on Lap 21 when contact from Anthony Alfredo sent his No. 99 Chevrolet spinning through the grass. The incident did not produce a caution, leaving Retzlaff struggling to return to pit road with two flat tires.
He lost two laps before the opening stage concluded, significantly reducing his opportunity
to score valuable points. Retzlaff eventually received the free pass during the first stage break and returned to the lead lap following Stage 2. However, the lost track position prevented him from challenging for a strong finish during the final stage. He ultimately finished 31st, completing all 94 laps and earning six points.
Retzlaff remains 11th in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase standings with 2,200 points. He trails championship leader Jesse Love by 201 markers, mathematically eliminating him from title contention. Retzlaff will attempt to rebound at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
