Alex Bowman secured a ninth-place finish in Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, giving Hendrick Motorsports three drivers inside the top 10. Bowman qualified seventh and remained competitive throughout the afternoon as the event featured multiple strategic developments and major accidents.
The No. 48 Chevrolet stayed in contention through the race's changing drafting conditions, with Bowman maintaining opportunities to advance as competitors cycled through the field.
Bowman was listed among the drivers involved in the 15-car accident on Lap 183, which forced NASCAR to temporarily stop the race for cleanup. However, he was able to remain in competition and complete all 189 laps.
The closing overtime restart produced intense competition
throughout the field. Bowman avoided further trouble and finished ninth behind teammate Kyle Larson, who captured the victory, and William Byron, who finished second. The result gave Bowman his eighth top-10 finish of the 2026 season.
Bowman remains 27th in the overall NASCAR Cup Series standings with 540 points, just one marker behind Zane Smith, who sits 26th. Although Bowman did not qualify for the championship Chase, he still has opportunities to improve his final position at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
