Jake Finch's promising afternoon ended in disappointment during Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway. The JR Motorsports driver qualified second but ultimately finished 38th after an accident ended his race during the closing laps.
Finch entered the event with considerable momentum after qualifying just 0.002 seconds behind pole winner Jesse Love. His No. 9 Chevrolet immediately demonstrated competitive speed, taking the lead on the opening lap with help from teammate Carson Kvapil. Although Finch surrendered the lead on Lap 2, he remained competitive throughout the opening stage.
The young driver eventually finished eighth in Stage 1, demonstrating his ability to compete against several established NASCAR O'Reilly Auto
Parts Series contenders. However, his opportunity to secure a strong result disappeared during the final stage.
On Lap 84, Finch lost control while exiting Turn 4 and struck the outside wall. The impact flattened both rear tires, but NASCAR allowed the race to continue under green-flag conditions. The damage prevented Finch from completing the event, leaving him 38th after 84 laps.
Although the result was disappointing, Finch demonstrated impressive qualifying speed and briefly led the race against a competitive field. His Talladega appearance provided another opportunity to develop his superspeedway racing experience.
