Brad Keselowski played an important role in one of the most unusual strategies of Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway before finishing 24th following a late accident. The RFK Racing driver started 22nd, led 12 laps and helped his organization dominate the opening stage.
Keselowski joined teammates Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece in an aggressive three-car drafting formation while the remainder of the field focused on saving fuel. The strategy allowed the RFK Racing trio to establish a substantial lead before green-flag pit stops.
Keselowski ultimately finished third in Stage 1 as his teammates secured the top two positions. He remained competitive during the second stage, leading additional laps while battling Joey Logano and several
other contenders.
However, Keselowski's opportunity for a strong finish ended when he was collected in the massive accident on Lap 183. The damage prevented him from continuing, leaving him 24th after completing 184 laps. Keselowski earned 21 points through his finishing position and stage performance.
He slipped one position to 19th in the overall NASCAR Cup Series standings with 704 points, sitting just two behind Ross Chastain. Having missed the championship Chase, Keselowski will attempt to regain that position during the final two races.
