Lee Pulliam delivered an encouraging performance during Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 22nd after starting 38th. The veteran short-track racer gained 16 positions during the 94-lap event.
Pulliam entered the afternoon facing a difficult challenge after his No. 87 Chevrolet required unapproved adjustments, forcing him to start at the rear of the field. However, the constantly changing drafting conditions provided opportunities to advance as the race progressed. Pulliam initially remained deeper in the field while JR Motorsports controlled the leading drafting lanes.
The opening stages featured extensive competition throughout the pack, with drivers attempting to organize different lanes to challenge the leaders.
Pulliam avoided major problems during the first two stages and continued improving his position.
The most significant accident occurred on Lap 57 when contact involving Harrison Burton and Taylor Gray triggered a multicar incident. Pulliam remained in competition and continued racing as the field prepared for the final stage. He ultimately completed all 94 laps and finished 22nd, earning 15 points.
Although the result fell short of a top-20 finish, Pulliam gained 16 positions and completed the entire event. The performance provided valuable experience during his limited NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series schedule.
