Corey Day enters Las Vegas sixth in his first O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase, carrying 2,143 points into the fourth race of the postseason. Day trails Sheldon Creed by 92 points and is tied with Sammy Smith, holding sixth in the standings on the tiebreaker.
Day helped his championship situation at Bristol by charging from 26th on the starting grid to finish fifth. The Hendrick Motorsports rookie survived a late incident involving Ryan Sieg and Parker Retzlaff and emerged with another top-five result while several Chase rivals encountered trouble.
Las Vegas was one of Day’s stronger intermediate-track races during the regular season. He finished eighth there in March, scored 36 points and led nine laps late in the event. Replicating or improving
upon that performance would help Day begin reducing a deficit that has reached nearly 100 points. He is 51 points behind fifth-place Sam Mayer but still has six races available to gain ground.
