Joey Logano has provided a positive update on his health following a frightening accident during Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. The three-time champion escaped serious injury after his No. 22 Team Penske Ford flipped upside down during a massive 15-car accident with five laps remaining in the YellaWood 500.
The incident occurred on Lap 183 when Carson Hocevar made contact with Logano while pushing him in the outside drafting lane. Logano lost control and struck the outside wall before contact with Chase Briscoe sent his Ford airborne. The vehicle landed upside down and slid along the racing surface before safety personnel arrived to return it to its wheels.
Fortunately, Logano climbed out of the damaged vehicle under
his own power and was evaluated at the infield care center. Speaking with FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass afterward, Logano confirmed he was feeling fine despite the violent impacts. "I'm OK. I'm fine. I feel 100 percent good to drive home," Logano said.
Logano also praised NASCAR's safety improvements, noting that his vehicle's protective structure held up significantly better than during his previous flip at Talladega in 2021. The veteran later revealed that his radio and in-car camera stopped working during the accident, preventing him from reassuring his family that he was unharmed. He explained that his children were crying when he returned to his motorhome.
The accident ended Logano's afternoon in 34th place after he led 23 laps and won the second stage. He remains fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings, trailing Kyle Larson by 100 points. Logano is scheduled to return behind the wheel for Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway as he continues pursuing his fourth championship.
