Harrison Burton showed competitive speed during Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway before a multicar accident disrupted his afternoon. The Sam Hunt Racing driver started 19th, led eight laps and ultimately finished 24th.
Burton remained competitive during the opening stages as drivers battled through multiple drafting lanes. His No. 24 Toyota became particularly strong during Stage 2, when he finished seventh and collected four valuable points. Burton subsequently benefited from a two-tire strategy during the stage break, allowing him to gain track position entering the final stage.
However, his afternoon changed dramatically on Lap 57 when his Toyota drifted toward the outside lane while exiting a corner. The move contributed
to contact between Carson Kvapil and Taylor Gray, triggering a multicar accident involving several championship contenders. Burton managed to continue racing but could not regain a leading position during the closing laps.
He ultimately finished 24th, completing all 94 laps and earning 17 points. The result helped Burton maintain 20th in the overall NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series standings with 532 points. He sits 18 points behind Jeremy Clements and 29 ahead of Jeb Burton.
With Martinsville and Homestead-Miami remaining, Burton will attempt to rebound and improve his final championship position.
