Kaden Honeycutt endured a disappointing conclusion to Friday's Black's Tire 200 at Martinsville Speedway, finishing 14th after appearing positioned for a top-five result. The TRICON Garage driver started fifth and entered the event holding a 43-point championship advantage over Layne Riggs.
Honeycutt remained competitive during the opening stages, battling Christian Eckes and several other championship contenders near the front. His No. 11 Toyota finished seventh in Stage 1 and sixth in Stage 2, earning nine additional points.
The Texas native continued running among the leading trucks during the final stage, occasionally challenging Riggs and Tristan McKee for position. However, his championship situation changed dramatically during the final restart
with 12 laps remaining.
Honeycutt was running near the top five when contact from McKee sent his Toyota up the track entering Turn 1. The incident caused him to lose numerous positions, eventually dropping to 14th before the checkered flag.
The result earned Honeycutt 32 points and significantly reduced his championship advantage. He remains first in the standings with 2,403 points, but Riggs closed the gap from 43 to 20 markers. Honeycutt will attempt to secure his first career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
