Corey Day was hot during the spring months, but the No. 17 team for Hendrick Motorsports has cooled down. With two races remaining in the 2026 NASCAR O'Reilly Series regular season, Day sits fifth in the standings. However, the driver of the No. 17 car is only 32 points behind second-place Carson Kvapil.
If Day wants to make significant ground in the point standings, he must find his race-winning pace in the No. 17 car. After all, Day hasn't finished in the top 5 spots since the O'Reilly Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in late May. The speed just hasn't been the same in the summer for the No. 17 team.
The new Chase format will allow Day to win the O'Reilly Series championship. With how tight the standings will be down the board, a win could
catapult Day into the championship lead. However, if Day and Hendrick Motorsports want this opportunity, the No. 17 car needs race-winning speed again.
