Austin Hill enters Las Vegas ninth in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase after a difficult Bristol race widened his championship deficit. Hill has 2,129 points and trails Sheldon Creed by 106 points through the opening three postseason events.
The Richard Childress Racing driver finished 22nd at Bristol, joining Jesse Love and Rajah Caruth among the Chase competitors outside the top 20. Hill’s result left him two points behind eighth-place Taylor Gray and 14 behind the tie between Corey Day and Sammy Smith.
Hill has reason for optimism entering the 1.5-mile Las Vegas track. He finished 10th there in March and collected 29 points, completing all 200 laps. A return to the top 10 would be useful, but Hill’s championship situation increasingly calls
for stage points and finishes closer to the front. Six races remain, and more than 100 points now separate him from Creed.
