For the first time in nearly a month, UNC won another football game. This time, North Carolina flew up to Pittsburgh and upset the 25th-ranked Panthers, 21-17, behind a lockdown defense late.
Tar Heel quarterback Billy Edwards struggled with a pair of early interceptions, then settled in for nearly 250 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards' final scoring strike came on UNC's longest play of the fall, a 75-yard touchdown pass to tight end Shamar Easter.
North Carolina travels to archrival Duke next weekend, then returns home to host Syracuse on October 24. The Tar Heels just learned their kickoff time for their next home matchup, when they'll host the Orange for a 7:30 p.m. primetime clash.
Syracuse (2-3, 0-2 ACC) sits in the conference cellar, but
seven points separate it from two more wins. The Orange collapsed during a 28-25 loss at Virginia on Saturday, plus they previously lost 21-18 to Cal.

Game times are typically decided by TV broadcasts, but good teams tend to get later kickoffs. UNC still has plenty of work to do before being labeled a "good" team, but plays much better compared to an abysmal 2025.
North Carolina will face Duke at 3:30 p.m. this coming weekend, with a sunny, fall day on tap for Durham. The Tar Heels gave away a fourth-quarter lead during last year's Victory Bell battle, then allowed 21 second-half points during 2024's collapse.
If UNC takes back the Victory Bell on Saturday and beats the Orange, expect a primetime Halloween game under the Kenan Stadium lights.
