The North Carolina Tar Heels football program is getting some good news during the bye week. After their first loss of the season to Clemson, watching the Tigers come back, the Tar Heels are on bye and looking to improve ahead of a game against Notre Dame.
On Wednesday, they received news that placekicker Rece Verhoff is now eligible again after Monroe County circuit court judge in Indiana granted a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit filed against the NCAA. Inside Carolina reported the news, citing court records.
Verhoff was originally ruled eligible over the summer, but before the season started, the decision was reversed, which meant he didn't play in UNC's first three games of the season.
This is great news for UNC as they have turned to LSU
transfer Aeron Burrell, as he beat out David Green for the kicking duties. Burrell is 2-of-4 on field goal attempts this season but missed one in the loss to Clemson.

Verhoff is coming off a 2025 season in which he made 19 of 23 field goal attempts and all 20 of his extra point attempts. That led to him earning an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection for that season. He also holds the record for the longest made field goal in program history with 57 yards.
