With 33 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, two trips to the Final Four and an NCAA championship in 2002, the University of Maryland has gained some respect when it comes to men's college basketball. It is the school where Len Bias once strutted his stuff and became regarded as the next great thing, and overall, 70 of its players have been drafted into the NBA.
Steve Francis, a three-time All-Star guard from the 2000s, played for the Terrapins, as did New Orleans Pelicans big man Derik Queen. The Los Angeles Lakers have taken two Terrapins in the NBA draft -- here is a look at both of them.
Jay McMillen -- forward
McMillen spent three years at the University of Maryland and averaged 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds a game while there. The Lakers took him in the ninth round
of the 1967 draft, but he never played in the NBA.
Brad Davis -- point guard
Davis was the No. 15 pick in the 1977 draft by the Lakers after averaging 12.2 points and 5.1 assists a game in three years with the Terrapins. The Lakers waived him early in his second pro season, but he went on to play 15 seasons in the NBA, mostly with the Dallas Mavericks, and he ended up with career averages of 8.2 points and 4.9 assists in 23.2 minutes a game.
