North Carolina State University isn't quite the basketball powerhouse that its in-state neighbors, Duke University and the University of North Carolina, are. But it has played in the NCAA Tournament 30 times and made it to the Final Four four times, and it won it all in 1974 and 1983, with its furious finish in the 1983 title game remaining one of college basketball's most iconic moments.
The legendary Hall of Famer David Thompson played for the Wolfpack, as did Spud Webb, Nate McMillan and Tom Gugliotta. In all, the school has produced 66 men who have been drafted into the NBA, including three players the Los Angeles Lakers selected.
Here is a look at each of those three players.
Ed Biedenbach -- guard
The St. Louis Hawks first took Biedenbach in the ninth round of
the 1967 draft, and the following year, the Lakers selected him in the fourth round. He played in seven games during the 1968-69 season with the Phoenix Suns and totaled four points, two rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes.
Kenny Carr -- forward
In three years with the Wolfpack, Carr averaged 20.6 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. The Lakers took him with the No. 6 pick in the 1977 draft, and he spent his first two seasons and change in the NBA with them, averaging 6.8 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes a game.
In total, Carr played 10 seasons in the NBA and registered 11.6 points and 7.4 boards in 25.5 minutes a game.
Craig Watts -- center
After averaging 4.7 points and 4.2 rebounds a game in four years at North Carolina State University, Watts was taken in the fifth round of the 1981 draft by the Lakers. He never played in the NBA.
