Vitor Petrino vs. Serghei Spivac UFC Fight Night 285 expert pick, prediction
Apparently, even Mick Maynard's beloved middleweight division has to take a backseat when it comes to the UFC's "bigger is better" philosophy for structuring
its cards.
In this case, their clearly nuanced formula gives us a heavyweight amalgamation between Serghei Spivac and Vitor Petrino.
Despite their continued efforts to push some chips in on Petrino, I still don't know how sold I am on his ceiling in any division. Petrino's probably in the correct weight class now; I'm just curious how he'll hold up to the potential pressure of a more capable heavyweight like Spivac.
The potential problem, however, is that Spivac – despite making appreciable improvements to his counter jabs and striking alike – has not exactly been a consistent pressure-grappling threat (which is a huge cheat code for finding success at heavyweight).
Add in the fact that Spivac has traditionally gotten spooked by superior athletes in defeat, and I can't help but side with Petrino to find a semi-surprising knockout early.
The official pick is Petrino by knockout in Round 1.
