UFC women's bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison reminded everyone of her accolades when asked about Ronda Rousey.
Harrison initially snubbed UFC Hall of Famer Rousey when listing her women's MMA Mount Rushmore but later took it back. While she acknowledges that Rousey is the reason women's MMA is in the UFC, she's not too high on her resume.
Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) was asked how a fight between her and Rousey in her prime would go.
"We learned the armbar at the same gym together," Harrison said of Rousey on "Deep Waters." "You think she's going to armbar me? Don't be disrespectful now. She did (so much), but dominating women who picked up gloves three years ago at a cardio-kickboxing class and said, 'I think I'm going to try this.' She paved
the way. I'm standing on her shoulders, and for that, I am grateful."
Although Olympic bronze medalist Rousey beat a 15-year-old Harrison twice in judo, Harrison went on to win two Olympic gold medals.
"I don't want to sound cocky; I'm not," Harrison said. "So in judo, there are world cups, grand prix, grand slams, then the world masters, then the world championships, then the Olympics. ... Being world champion is harder, but being an Olympic champion is more prestigious. So, Ronda has an Olympic bronze medal, a world silver medal, and she won a world cup and medaled at some grand prix.
"I have won every single world cup, every single grand prix, every single grand slam. I won the world masters twice. I won the world championships and took three bronze medals, and I won the Olympics twice. So, of course I thought I could do it because anything she can do, I can do better."
Harrison makes her first title defense against former two-division champion Amanda Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) at UFC 334 on Nov. 14 from Madison Square Garden in New York.
