Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns are set to run it back, but this time on the wrestling mat.
Once rivals in the UFC, Chimaev and Burns will compete in a freestyle match in the co-main event of RAF 13 (Fox Nation) on Sept. 18 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla, the promotion announced Wednesday. The bout will be contested at an unspecified catchweight.
Chimaev is double booked in RAF as he also competes this Saturday in the RAF Moscow main event against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley. Chimaev made his RAF debut this summer by pinning Dillon Danis.
Chimaev is waiting for the UFC to book his next MMA fight. He lost his UFC middleweight title to Sean Strickland
this past May and has been campaigning for a rematch ever since, although he recently indicated he's willing to fight more than just Strickland next.
Burns retired from MMA following a TKO loss to Mike Malott in April. It was his fifth consecutive defeat. Post-retirement, Burns has gotten involved in MMA management and has competed in UFC BJJ. The match with Chimaev will be Burns' RAF debut.
Chimaev and Burns fought in 2022 in one of the best fights that year as both men earned Fight of the Night bonuses at UFC 273. Chimaev won the bout by unanimous decision, a result that was debated by many observers.
