LAS VEGAS – Yadier del Valle likes what he's seen from Tommy McMillen, and he wants to partake in the fun.
"The Cuban Problem" planned to call out McMillen after his win at UFC Fight Night 284, but held off from mentioning him in his in-cage post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, as he had seen reports surface of McMillen getting a fight at Noche UFC in September days before his bout. He still mentioned him backstage after his bout for a potential fight in the future.
"I would've liked to call out Tommy McMillen, but I think he already has a fight booked," Del Valle told MMA Junkie and other media at the UFC Fight Night 284 post-fight press conference. "So yeah, in a week and a half I'll be back with my coach training, getting better, and that's
it. I'll be ready."
Del Valle (11-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) picked up a vicious KO over veteran Elkins (29-13 MMA, 19-12 UFC), who was competing in his retirement bout, on the main card of UFC Fight Night 284 – which took place Saturday at the Meta Apex.
Del Valle is no stranger to putting on exciting fights and delivering strong finishes. In his three UFC wins, he's picked up three finishes. Del Valle finds McMillen to be a perfect dance partner to accommodate a wild fight, and possibly a finish.
"If you guys watch my fight in Contender (Series), it was an absolute war against Antonio Monteiro," del Valle said. "I'm game for wars, always. If he likes that type of fight, I also like it and let the best man win. I think it could be a fight that brings a lot of hype."
Apart from having a style of fighting that interests del Valle, McMillen has also been generating quite the buzz with his exciting fights, interviews, and association with former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley. Del Valle wouldn't mind getting some of that spotlight.
"I want to fight him because he talks a lot and he brings hype," del Valle said. "I think I have all the skills to beat him and to put in a war and an exciting fight for the fans."
