The long-discussed and highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally is official.
The boxing standouts will fight Dec. 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, as the headliner on Netflix. Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) and Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) each have past boxing events on Netflix.
Joshua knocked out Jake Paul last December. In July, he was knocked down twice in the first round against Kristian Prenga, but turned things around in the second for a vicious knockout.
In April, Fury beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision. Now, the former heavyweight champions will meet in one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights in recent history.
"Fury vs. Joshua is a fight years in the making between two of
boxing's biggest stars," Gabe Spitzer, Netflix's VP of sports, said in a news release. "It has the rivalry, the stakes and the scale to capture the attention of sports fans around the world."
The fight will be a co-promotion between Turki Alalshikh's The Ring and Zuffa Boxing.
The Brits are scheduled for a press conference next Wednesday in London. Undercard fights will be announced in the coming weeks.
