LAS VEGAS – Brace yourselves, MMA fans. A lot of ass-whoopings are coming soon to the welterweight division, says Ronald Humphrey.
The unbeaten prospect vows to dish out some violence in the octagon now that he's officially a UFC fighter. Humphrey (5-0) bloodied and submitted Alexis Miranda (9-3) to impress UFC CEO Dana White at Tuesday's Dana White Contender Series and win a contract with the promotion. Despite the monumental career moment, Humphrey was nonchalant about the whole thing.
"Nothing crazy, bro," Humphrey said at the DWCS 89 post-fight press conference when asked about joining the UFC. "Like, we all know how this game goes. (Dana White) announced it, and now I have another job, and whoever is on the line in front of me, it's war against
you."
Humphrey wants to stay busy now that he's in the UFC and hopes to get another fight before the year's end. He's confident that he not only has the level to hang in the stacked UFC welterweight division but also thrive in it.
"I don't want to come off as fake confident, because that's not really me," Humphrey said. "I genuinely kind of don't care (who I face). Like, there's a quote right when I walked out, it said, 'If you expect to be a world champion, it doesn't matter who they put in front of you.' So, if you want to give me certain people, I'll take those people. If you want to give me other people, I'll take them, too. Like, I got one job, bro, and that's to come here and put a belt at the ass. Like, what? Am I going to b*tch about it? Like, no. Let's fight, bro."
