Aljamain Sterling doesn't think Jean Silva should leapfrog him as No. 1 contender.
Sterling (26-5 MMA, 18-5 UFC) called out Silva after the Brazilian scored a third-round submission of Jose Delgado (12-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 288 main event last month.
Silva dismissed Sterling's callout
, and is instead targeting the winner of the title fight between Alexander Volkanovski vs. Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 on Oct. 24."He had a great win – well, finish," Sterling said of Silva on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "It was a tough performance against a guy who stepped up on short notice – tall, rangy, young kid, as well. He was calling for a title shot, and I think he might think I have bad blood against him. No dude. We're trying to do the same
thing here. So if you think you're next and I think I'm next, let's figure it out. It's nothing bigger than that."
Sterling, who snapped Youssef Zalal's win streak in the UFC Fight Night 274 main event, drew red-hot contender Kevin Vallejos (18-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 294 on Nov. 21 at ABHA Arena in Doha (Paramount+). He disagrees with Silva getting the next title shot.
"Hell no," Sterling said. "He better fight someone else. What I honestly think it's going to come down to is who looks the best these next coming months, and then who wins the title fight between Movsar and the champ, Volkanovski."
