PHILADELPHIA – Islam Makhachev is one step closer to his bid at history after making weight for his UFC 330 title defense against Ian Machado Garry.
Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) was in good form at Friday's official weigh-in from the host hotel as he stepped on the scale as a welterweight for the second time in advance of his showdown with Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), who also made weight.
MMA Junkie's No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter Makhachev will seek a record-setting 17th straight UFC win on Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena (Paramount+) when he puts 170-pound gold on the line for the first time against Machado Garry, who attempts to become the second Irish-born champ in company history alongside Conor McGregor.
Makhachev was the first
fighter to come to the scale during the two-hour session and was 170 pounds on the nose. Machado Garry came to the room just short of 30 minutes into the session and on point at championship weight, as well, at 170 ahead of his first opportunity at UFC gold.
