LAS VEGAS – Adam Darby is heading to the UFC and hopes for things to get "spooky" quickly.
Darby (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) won a UFC contract by stopping Patrick Rivera in the featured bout of Dana White's Contender Series 90 on Tuesday. It was a dominant display of striking that eventually led to a doctor's stoppage in the third round due to swelling in the right eye of Rivera (13-5). His opponent had very little to offer in terms of offense, which means Darby is ready to get right back into action for his UFC debut after impressing Dana White with his surgical striking.
"I said to Dana, 'I'd love to go again next weekend if possible,'" Darby told MMA Junkie and other reporters during a post-fight news conference. "But who knows if that will happen?
If not, there's a show on the 31st of October, Halloween night. Spooky. Get me on it. Let's go."
Darby doesn't want to mess around with entry-level welterweights, either. The 27-year-old Irish striker hopes to get experience against tougher competition quickly so that by this time next year, he's knocking on the door of the promotion's rankings.
"Throw me in the deep end," Darby said. "I'm good to go. I want to fight the best guys. I have since I'm young. That's how I've got to where I am. I've always wanted to fight the best guys. I've never turned down a fight in my whole career. Give me whoever they want; I'm good to go.
"... I think (by next year) I'll be in contention – everyone will know my name. I'll probably be trying to punch into the top 10, top 15. So, let's see."
