Andre Fili vs. Kai Kamaka III UFC Vegas 122 preview
Fili (25-14 MMA, 13-13 UFC) has struggled to maintain momentum in recent years, as he has continuously traded wins and losses. Ahead of this matchup, he comes in on the heels of back-to-back losses to Jose Delgado and Vinicius Oliveira.
Kamaka (18-8-1 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC) kicked off his second UFC stint with a split decision win over Dakota Hope in April, but was then stopped in the opening round by Luke Riley in July.
Andre Fili vs. Kai Kamaka III UFC Vegas 122 expert pick, prediction
Filling out the main card is a solid pairing of action-fighting featherweights in Andre Fili and Kai Kamaka III.
Although this is clearly one of the best fights
on the card, it pains me to see two personal favorites and fellow islanders go at it. Despite having a bit more bias toward the Hawaiian Kamaka given his ties to Xtreme Couture, I don't necessarily disagree with Fili being listed as the favorite.
Aside from being the more tenured UFC fighter, Fili has some solid length advantages and striking tools that could help him navigate this fight. That said, Kamaka is a well-rounded competitor whose leg kicks will be live as far as counters to Fili's jabs are concerned.
Considering that both Fili and Kamaka are coming off stoppage losses, I expect a more conservative showing from each party that could give way to a close and contentious decision outcome. For that reason, I'll officially pick the underdog Kamaka to edge out the scorecards with a split-decision win.
Andre Fili vs. Kai Kamaka III UFC Vegas 122 odds
